Backwards and in fast forward

All good stories start at the end.

You're in the Maldives surfing perfect, empty A-frames with your best friends. You surf until dusk, return to your villa where you're treated to cocktails and a seafood extravaganza with your nearest and dearest. Then you make a website.

Nice dream. And so, Backwards was born. Or rather, designed.

Everything at Backwards is by design.

Being up front about who we will and won't work with? By design. Ignoring so called 'best-practice' if we think it wastes time? That's by design. Playing hard to get and doing absolutely nothing to win work. You guessed it.

That Maldives dream? That's future-back design thinking.

When we distract you, it's on purpose.

We love minimalism. We don't mean those two guys that wrote that book. We own more than six objects.

We mean websites with no unintended distractions. Everything has a job. Everything works hard. The simplicity of minimalist design and minimalist content.

Human-centred design is for the 1%. Not you.

Don't let anyone tell you that co-designing with your customers is the key to success. Design research is for really difficult problems. It's an R&D process that's meant to solve problems for the 1%. The outlier. You don't need that.

You don't even need a website that works for the other 99%. You need a website that works for your business. That's what we do.

You might say, every website is limited edition.

Yeah, weird business model. We love making good websites. We have no interest in cloning run of the mill brochure websites all day long. That's boring.

And we're busy with other things. We also build Salesforce CRMs and headless web apps for the government. That stuff takes years, costs millions and it's a grind.
